COALITION COMMITS TO HONOURING AUSTRALIAN-CHINESE | Australian Markets

An elected Dutton Coalition Authorities will fund the commissioning of a memorial sculpture that recognises the service and sacrifice of Australians of Chinese language descent within the service of our nation.

The Chief of the Opposition, the Hon Peter Dutton MP, made the dedication on the Field Hill Lunar New Yr celebrations and stated the memorial can be hosted by the Field Hill RSL – and positioned within the Field Hill Gardens.

“The story of Australia would not be the same without our Chinese diaspora. That contribution covers every field and endeavour. For more than a century, Chinese Australians have served with distinction in our nation’s defence,” Mr Dutton stated.

“Their courage, sacrifice and loyalty to Australia is woven into our history and I am delighted to make this commitment today in honour of their service,” Mr Dutton stated.

Shadow Dwelling Affairs Minister, Senator James Paterson stated, “Chinese Australians have served honourably and with great distinction in war throughout our history, and many continue to do so today. It is only right that we honour their service and sacrifice for our country in the home of Melbourne’s diverse and vibrant Chinese community.”

Federal Member for Menzies, Mr Keith Wolahan MP stated, “As a veteran, I know that service has no heritage qualifier – only duty, courage, and sacrifice. For over a century, Chinese Australians have embodied these values, serving in every capacity and conflict. This community has helped write our nation’s most sacred story. It is right and proper that we acknowledge that.”

Strengthening our native communities and honouring our veterans is extremely important for our society.

This memorial sculpture can be designed in session with the area people, with Chinese language Australian veterans, and with present serving Chinese language Australian ADF members.
