A Jetstar flight from Melbourne to Busselton has been diverted to Perth after it was struck by lightning.

The airline confirmed flight JQ900, which departed from Melbourne on Friday morning, had been re-routed to Perth Airport about 9.50am after the Airbus A320 was hit by lightning.

The passengers have been then taken by highway on the 220km journey to Busselton.

A Jetstar spokesperson mentioned plane have been “manufactured to withstand lightning strikes”.

“As part of standard procedures in these circumstances, the aircraft was required to be inspected by engineers on arrival,” the spokesperson mentioned.

“As we don’t have engineers based in Busselton, the flight diverted to Perth for inspection.”

St John WA confirmed an ambulance had not been referred to as to Perth Airport.
